We are very committed to having a school that is a caring, safe and orderly with a positive learning environment for pupils and staff.
Our school values guide the way we work and they set out clear expectations these are:
We have high expectations of all our learners and we believe that everyone has the right to learn and play.
To support this and to guide pupils in making positive choices we have 6 simple but important school rules/expectations which are displayed in all classes. These expectations will be consistent throughout the school and in all our learning environments. These expectations and consequences have been created with and by the children. Children know that they are responsible for the behavioural choices they make.
Expectations
Rewards
Children who choose to follow the rules will be rewarded with lots of praise telling them how well they are doing.
These rewards could include:
Stickers HT stickers
Positive note home
Certificates Extra responsibility Positive phone call
Visit to Head Teacher or PT Golden Time Rewards
Behavioural Choices
In each classroom there will be a set of traffic lights. Each child will have their name next to the traffic lights. Everyone who has followed the rules/expectations will keep their name next to the traffic lights and it will still be there at the end of the day.
If a child chooses to not follow the rules/expectations they will be given a verbal warning and reminded of the rule that they must follow. If the child continues to not follow the rules/expectations then he/she will then be asked to move their name onto the green traffic light.
If the child chooses to not follow the rules/expectations again or breaks another one, they will be given another verbal warning. If they continue with this behaviour then they will move to the amber traffic light. This will result in a Time Out sanction e.g. time out of playtime/activity or sent to another adult for time out.
If the child continues to choose not to follow the rules/expectations again they will be given another verbal warning. At this point the child has had lots of opportunities to make sensible choices. If they continue to break the rules/expectations then they will move their name to the red traffic light. As this is now quite a serious matter the child will be sent to the Head teacher or Principal Teacher. Any class work missed during this time may be sent home for completion or done in the child’s break/own time. A red letter will be sent home to you letting you know your child has reached the red traffic light. We would like you to discuss the matter with your child and sign the return slip on the letter and bring it back to school the next day. If a child is consistently on red traffic lights then you will be contacted to discuss the situation.
Severe Behaviour Clause
Sometimes we have to act quickly and decisively to stop a pupil’s disruptive behaviour. In the unlikely case of severe misbehaviour, fighting, vandalism, defying an adult, or in some way stopping the entire class from learning – the pupil loses the right to move up the traffic lights and will be removed immediately from class.
